At the department meeting on October 23, third-year graduate student Yegor Trachuk shared the interim results of his dissertation on the topic “Hydrodynamic processes in disk extrusion of polymers” (scientific supervisor – Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of MAKhNV Shved M. P.).
Yegor developed his own Python program that models the movement of polymer melt in the flat-slotted inter-disk gap of a disk extruder and allows assessing the mixing efficiency depending on the technological modes of the extrusion process.
The results obtained open the way to creating a universal method for selecting geometric characteristics and operating modes of disk extruders.
During the report, it was noted that further work will be aimed at developing and harmonizing mathematical models of polymer movement in working gaps of other configurations and experimental verification of the obtained results.
